When the word tarp is comes up the first thing for many that springs to mind is a truck tarp. This is not surprising when there are 33.8 million trucks in the United States carrying a lot of goods. The American Truck Associations (ATA) statistics show that around 71 percent of all freight in this country is hauls on trucks. This amounts to 10.5 billion tons of cargo carried on trucks annually. Much of this freight needs to be covered and secured in one way or another. Matching the amount, diversity, and specialization in the trucking industry, there are a wide variety of products for Truck Tarps and Truck Covers.
Truck Tarps and Truck Covers are two different classifications that both provide the protection of loads in similar and varying ways. The first, truck tarps or tarpaulins are often placed and secured directly on or over the freight with the grommets (eyelets) and tied down with straps, ropes, or cables.Because there are countless applications for Truck Tarps, a wide range of standard and custom size options are available to ensure complete and proper covering of the valuable cargo. In addition, a variety of materials match the necessary duties and adverse conditions. These include tarps that are made of effective fabrics including canvas, vinyl, polyethylene, and mesh. Most of these materials also come in a number of colors for safety, identity, brand, and other aesthetic purposes.
Each has material has their own characteristics. Many share similar attributes including strength durability along with features such as UV ray, abrasion, tear, mildew, and or mold resistance. Some truck tarps also have coatings or additives that provide additional valuable protection including waterproof, puncture resistant, and fire and flame-retardant benefits.Truck TarpsA couple of popular Truck Tarp for heavily hauled products include Flatbed/Lumber Tarps and Steel/Hauler Truck Tarps.
Although they are still tarps, we will call Truck Covers a subcategory. These tarps or covers are usually fit and apply to specific trucks for more specialized types of freight and loads. Examples of this are Asphalt RFL Truck, Roll-Off, Smoke, Coil, Nursery, and Transfer Trailers.Truck Covers are from the same materials appearing in the Truck Tarp section of this article. These also provide the protection necessary from the proper fabrics ensuring that the loads arrive at their destination in the same condition as when they begun.
